It’s important to understand the role that micronutrients can play in setting up crops for success. Micronutrients are as important and they are as essential as nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, which are macronutrients and secondary nutrients like calcium and sulfur. Micronutrients are as important because, without them, plants can't function properly. So, crops need micronutrients in order to fulfill their essential functions such as photosynthesis, growth, reproduction, etc. Use the frame of the four R's of nutrient management: right rate, right time, right source, right placement. To improve nutrient-use efficiency and get the most out of investing in micronutrients.

Take the runner analogy: micronutrients being hydration that a runner is going to need to run a marathon, and the crop being that runner and the marathon being that high yield to achieve. Past management was for when  a deficiency was seen, and that is like waiting for a runner to collapse to then give some water. Now the runner can recover and make it to the finish line, but timing and yield potential was already compromised. By that time of providing a micronutrient program based on deficiencies, yield potential is already compromised.
